by Gerhard Joehnk, Sverdrup & Parcel, St. Louis, MO, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Cable Stayed Bridges

Abstract:

The Burlington cable-stayed bridge will carry US34 over the Mississippi River from Burlington, Iowa to Gulfport, Illinois. There will be two 12-ft lanes in each direction plus an acceleration lane coming from Burlington to Illinois. The bridge will replace the existing 2-lane MacArthur Bridge. Due to connection with downtown Burlington, the main span of the bridge has a horizontal curve and a superelevation starting over approximately one-third of the main span.
