Full Scale Foundation Trials on Grid Reinforced Clay

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Geosynthetics for Soil Improvement

Abstract:

The paper describes the results of full-scale testing of strip footings on an alluvial clay site. Existing theory is briefly discussed but shown to be of little relevance to the consolidation and creep behavior of the clay which was found to dominate footing performance. By a comparison of clays with and without grid inclusions the ability of the grid to hinder creep movement is demonstrated.
