A Combined RCC and Reinforced Concrete Spillway

by Ronnie M. Lemons, Freese & Nichols Inc, Fort, Worth, TX, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Roller Compacted Concrete II

Abstract:

Stacy Dam features the latest evolution in the use of roller compacted concrete for construction of spillways. Because of unusual site conditions, RCC will be used in three different parts of the spillway: the foundation for the gated crest portion, the adjoining gravity sections, and portions of the spillway training wall foundations. The paper describes the basis of the design and its most unique feature, a reinforced concrete facing element installed after the previously placed RCC gravity section reaches its peak hydration temperature. Comparative unit costs are included.
