Abstract:

This paper presents the design, material testing, quality control, and construction considerations applicable to a small Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dam. The Cedar Falls RCC dam is a 9. 1m (30 feet) high gravity dam which replaced an aging timber crib type dam. The dam was constructed on a sand and gravel foundation which required analysis and design to mitigate excessive seepage, potential piping of the foundation, settlement and cracking due to settlement. Test data from the RCC mix design and construction quality control programs are presented and evaluated.
