Abstract:

In the mid 1970's, Bountiful City Light and Power began investigating alternative energy sources to furnish power to their distribution system. They engaged the firm of Bingham Engineering to investigate the feasibility of developing hydroelectric power from several potential sites. A number of Bureau of Reclamation dams located in Utah were investigated. Feasibility studies were completed on seven projects, five of which resulted in enough favorable conditions to warrant further investigations. Preliminary permits were obtained for five sites. License applications were completed for each site and submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The Echo Dam license was submitted in September 1983. A license to construct the project was granted by FERC in September 1984.
