Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Water Power '87

Abstract:

This paper discusses the intake civil designs, addressing head loss and flow distribution into the turbine intake. The impact of poor flow quality on head losses, turbine performance, and turbine structure will be reviewed. Typical intake flow quality, requested by turbine manufacturers, will be reviewed and compared to what may be reasonably achievable based on a series of actual experiments. A recommendation for intake flow quality will be presented.
