Abstract:

Hydroelectric projects cause significant mortality to fish migrating downstream. The current method to reduce fish mortality at hydropower plants is the use of traveling screens. In this study, the traveling screen is simulated by a flat screen located between two parallel boundaries. A mathematical model for steady, two-dimensional flow through and around the screen is considered. Assuming an inviscid fluid, the model is constructed first by simulating the screen with an unknown distribution of sources, and then manipulating the stream function at downstream from the screen to satisfy the relevant boundary conditions.
