by Walter E. Hancock, Wiley & Wilson, Lynchburg, VA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Water Power '87

Abstract:

A geotechnical investigation was undertaken in October 1983. The investigation included core drill samples at the powerhouse, along the proposed dike, at the retaining walls and headgate structure. The primary purpose of the drill samples was to determine the elevation and quality of the bedrock. An extensive investigation of the concrete dam was also undertaken to determine all areas needing repairs. The detail design and preparation of construction drawings and specifications required approximately 1 year and was completed in October 1984. Due to interest rates in the municipal bond market in the fall of 1984, it was spring of 1985 before the project was advertised for construction.
