Abstract:
The Crater Lake Phase of the Snettisham Hydroelectric Project has been designed and is currently under construction. This paper describes the design and construction of the lake tap which is comprised of a perched lake, pierced by an underwater tap 220 ft. below lake surface discharging into an unlined rock power tunnel. The lake tap consists of an entrance orifice, a large rock trap, and a transition to the unlined power tunnel. It is planned to use a dry lake tap procedure shooting against a closed bulkhead at the gate shaft. A snow plug will be used as a buffer.
