Abstract:

The project proceeded through preliminary design, FERC licensing, and into detailed design, following its selection as one of seven low-head redevelopment projects to be partially funded by the Department of Energy grant. In the detailed design phase, much attention focused on the integrity of the dam, the means of repairing same, and the methods of controlling the Winooski River during the process of dam renovation and powerhouse construction. The presentation discusses the method that was used to control the river during construction, what was discovered when the dam was exposed, and the substantial efforts required to evaluate, design, and rehabilitate the timber crib structure.
