Abstract:
The Ontario Ministry of Energy initiated a project to develop an analysis program based upon metric measures and Canadian costs. The Ministry of Energy of the Province of Ontario has been very active in promoting small hydro in the province. Through the undertaking of various small hydro programs, a significant data base has been developed of potential hydraulic sites. The Ministry has also initiated a new program of funding for prefeasibility studies, investigations, and require the development of a standarization minimum level of information on each site. All of the foregoing resulted in the decision to undertake the development of a Small Hydro Analysis and Reporting Program (SHARP). The versatility and expandability of SHARP has allowed consolidation approximately a dozen software packages used previously into a single device. It has also proved to be an effective educational tool for training junior engineers and technical staff.
