Abstract:

The design of effective information systems requires a rational analysis effort to determine specifically what functions are to be served by the system and how the system can satisfactorily perform its role. This paper presents three tools which in combination help the analyst perform this study. One tool is used to identify those functions which need computer support. The next tool is used to determine how well the proposed system would be utilized. The last tool is used to determine why the existing system is not satisfactory. A case study of the application of these tools in a test environment is also presented.
