Abstract:

This volume contains over forty papers from thirteen sessions of Structures Congress '87. The papers include a variety of topics on the overall behavior and design of buildings or major subsystems of buildings. The topics can be grouped in several themes. One theme concerns the evaluation and correction of deficiencies in existing buildings. Most of these papers deal with seismic conditions and another related group of papers evaluate many of the results from the earthquake research program conducted in cooperation between the United States and Japan. Another theme is building materials including wood and composite steel/concrete construction. General building form on latticed structures and tension structures are covered along with more conventional building forms. Four tutorial papers discuss codes provisions for concrete masonry construction in Florida, the BOCA Code and the Standard Building Code. Building design is also the main theme of two papers on serviceability limit states.
