Abstract:

The Container Terminal Model (CTM) comprises a batch computer simulation model and interactive graphics animation package. The model has been developed to aid engineers and transportation planning analysts in the design of new container terminals and in the modification of existing ones. The model consists of two parts: a computer simulation of the intermodal terminal operations, and a graphical postprocessor. The simulation can evaluate various plant layouts, equipment trade-offs and yard operating policies. The results of the simulation can then be graphically replaced by the postprocessor, animating the major operations in the terminal.
