Abstract:

Sonoma County Transit's (SCT) fleet maintenance program covers all aspects of repair and preventive maintenance, with the exception of major body work. This paper describes the process SCT took to implement a computer based fleet management system SCT's choice of software and hardware; and how the system is utilized. Attention is given to system installation, costs, staffing requirements, benefits, problems, and current uses. Examples of operational and management reports, preventive maintenance schedules, individual vehicle histories and other products are presented. Special focus on decision analysis based on these products illustrates practical uses in daily maintenance activities, performance audits, budgeting, warranty claims, and competitive purchasing.
