Abstract:

'Road Design, Version 2. 0,' an improved version of the original introduced at the National Conference on Microcomputers in Urban Transportation in San Diego in June, 1985 has just been released. The release is being used in an academic environment to instruct Civil Engineering students in the design procedures for horizontal and vertical road alignments. The procedures provided in the system are also being employed by a small consulting firm to implement design of profiles for new construction projects involving road alignments. Improvements to the latest version include: doubling the number of vertical curves available per profile segment; the calculation of slope staking points from existing field information; earthwork volume computations; and mass diagram modeling.
