Abstract:

The New Jersey Department of Transportation purchased the Statewide 1980 Census Urban Transportation Planning Package (UTPP) and began offering this information to other Government Agencies in 1984. The Department originally offered this data on either 9 track computer tape, to those agencies which had access to a mainframe computer, or in printed form. Request for this data which involved less then 100 records and only one or two tables from the files were downloaded via modem to an IBM-PC microcomputer and sent out as a Lotus Spreadsheet or as a dBase II database file. In preparation for the Development of a model for the Northeastern portion of the state and other needs of the Bureau, new computer equipment was purchased.
