Abstract:

FREQ8PE is a freeway corridor simulation model. It is a batch processing mainframe program written in ASCII FORTRAN IV, which performs three basic functions: simulate freeway queueing, optimize ramp metering, and estimate traveler response. JHK & Associates has created a microcomputer version of FREQ. In converting the program to a microcomputer environment, several changes in theory and program structure were installed. Many of these changes were driven by the needs of the Orlando, Florida Freeway Operations Study. Other changes were made to enhance the user interface. Only the simulation portion of the program has been converted. The optimization algorithm will be installed if needed. The traveler response algorithms will eventually be replaced by a network modeling interface so that more complex path and mode diversions can be simulated.
