Abstract:

A flexible microcomputer spreadsheet analysis method is described for analyzing area-wide and localized impacts of new development in urban or suburban activity centers. The analysis approach starts with the specification of projected square footage of new development by type and location, and produces estimates of traffic, parking, public transit, and pedestrian impacts. Local data on building occupancy, trip generation rates, modal split and auto occupancy can be utilized where available, or standard national 'default' assumptions can be relied upon.
