Abstract:

In 1983 members of the Irrigation and Drainage Division's Committee on Surface Water expressed concern over reductions in funding for data collection and publication programs in the United States and at all levels: federal, state, and local. A Task Committee was established to review current practices and trends in water data collection and publication throughout the 50 states. The Committee queried state and federal agencies and the private sector about their activities and attitudes. Recently the committee completed its work and submitted its report. This is the first public presentation on the Task Committee's work.
