Abstract:

This paper outlines the features and capabilities of a comprehensive personal computer software system for use by irrigation engineers in design and evaluation of continuous and surge furrow or border irrigation systems. This software system provides the user with a menu driven interface, graphical display of results, and automatic calculation of optimal surge cycle period, number of surges, and irrigation application time. It can be used to determine infiltration from advance data, advance from infiltration data, selected irrigation efficiencies for existing operations, optimal efficiencies, and what-if evaluation capability of existing or proposed surface irrigation systems. Provisions are made for blocked (diked) furrows, surge irrigation cycle times, and cycle ratio sequences.
