Design of Semi-Closed Pipeline Systems

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydropower: Recent Developments

Abstract:

Semi-closed pipeline systems controlled by downstream activated float valves permit low pressure pipeline systems to communicate information from the outflow location back to the source as to the outflow requirement and to automatically convey the needed water supply. Such capabilities facilitate the use of flexible schedules and reduce operational labor requirements compared to the prevalent open pipeline systems. The advantages and the design precedures are described.
