Abstract:

Geotechnical information derived from cone penetration testing (CPT) has been found to give increased accuracy in the siting of waste disposal facilities and in the design of remedial action alternatives. Electric cone penetrometers of various design have been used to conduct a number of in-situ tests where accurate information on soil stratigraphy and variability is essential for the consideration and evaluation of various waste disposal options. Advantages of continuous electric cone penetrometer testing from a geotechnical and environmental standpoint are discussed.
