Port Everglades Development with Respect for Nature

by Allan D. Sosnow, Port Everglades Authority, Port, Everglades, FL, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '87

Abstract:

Port Everglades is located on the Southeast coast of Florida partially within the limits of the City of Fort Lauderdale. With the construction of the port in 1928, the surrounding ecosystem changed from a fresh water to a brackish/marine environment. Along with this and other changes to the surrounding area, the years have produced an influx of red mangroves, Florida manatees, sea turtles and the need for the port to expand.
