Abstract:

Emergency shore protection usually requires design and construction to be completed in a 2 to 3 week period. Emergency shore protection measures at Surfside and Ventura, California required the engineer and contractor to design and construct shore protection structures as rapidly as possible. This paper discusses the design and construction philosophy and methodology for emergency shore protection. Recent emergency shore protection measures at Surfside and Ventura are highlighted. The needs and objectives for emergency shore protection at these sites are also presented.
