The ARC Reefs: Designed Artificial Reef Systems

Abstract:

Results of laboratory tests and preliminary results of field tests indicate materials and designs incorporated in The American Reef Corporation (ARC) designed artificial reef structures yield units which are light-weight, durable, and stable in adverse near shore marine environments. The longevity and durability of materials can enhance the cost-effectiveness of artificial reef projects. The designs employed provide effective surfaces which deflect commercial fishing trawls and reduce the drag forces of current and wave action. These structures help provide solutions to impediments encountered by reef builders when implementing an artificial reef project.
