Abstract:

Since 1980 the United States Coast Guard has been developing a lighted buoy for exposed areas and congested harbor entrances. The buoy hardware is of conventional design while the signal suite is much expanded from ordinary buoys. The power system makes use of both solar and wave energy to produce electricity. This report details the development of the operational system currently in use.
