Abstract:
Considerable analytical work, including model testing, has been conducted to increase understanding of performance and failure. There is a separate category of problems, however, where this approach may not be directly applicable. This involves the protection of the beach/dune resource itself in addition to structures placed behind the dune. It also involves the protection of estuarine shorelines where environmental enhancement is equal in importance to shoreline stability. This abstract refers to the concept of littoral process stabilization with shoreline protection as an important but secondary consideration.
