Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '87

Abstract:

Construction of Interstate Highway I-664 across Hampton Roads involves extensive underwater work and consequent risk of lowered water quality. This paper described field monitoring procedures developed to determine water quality on a continuous basis, together with the standards which had to be met. The project has succeeded not only in protecting a sensitive marine environment, but also in preventing unjustified and costly shutdowns of construction operations. The opinions expressed are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the Virginia Department of Transportation.
