Waterfronts Revived

by Ann L. Buttenwieser,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '87

Abstract:

This paper explores the experiences of North American cities in their efforts to improve opportunities for the public to use and enjoy their shores. This work is an outgrowth of research the author conducted for the New York City Department of Planning in order to create a reference compendium for the benefit of those involved in New York City's waterfront revitalization. Together, precedents from other cities show a variety of designs, programs, and administrative and financing mechanisms available to improve the juncture of land and water for public use.
