Abstract:

Fundamental considerations for flexible revetment design are given in some detail and the critical need for sound engineering in a total system design approach is strongly emphasized. Flexible revetment manufacturing and fabrication techniques are described and mattress installation processes are briefly outlined. The cost-effectiveness of this applied technology is demonstrated by comparing a latter-generation flexible revetment design with a design for a conventional armor stone structure. Finally, significant findings from performance observations made on existing flexible revetments are given, and the results of wave tests conducted on a model mattress system are summarized.
