Abstract:

This paper presents an overview discussion of the National Coastal Erosion Study for the Southeast Asian country of Malaysia which was conducted over a 15-month period ending in January 1986. The Government of Malaysia has embarked on an ambitious program addressing the problems of coastal erosion prevalent throughout the entire country. The study represents the first step in an effort by the Government to plan and implement a comprehensive and coordinated program of coastal erosion evaluation and control. The program is one of the first of its kind to be undertaken by a country to address the problem of coastal erosion on a national basis. This paper discusses the general finding and recommendations of the Malaysian National Coastal Erosion Study.
