Abstract:

Grupo ICA has participated in all stages of the actions and analysis of the effects of this quake aimed at taking advantage of this disastrous experience and has prepared a complete study that includes seismicity aspects, characteristics of the earthquake, geological aspects, existing instrumentation, evolution of the codes, definition and behavior of structures and damage evaluation backed by photogrammetric studies and direct inspection of buildings. This paper resumes part of the study and describes the types of structures that exist in the City and how they were affected by the quake. An important feature of the study is that an inventory of all the existing buildings in the zone of maximum damage was obtained, taking into account the type of structure, materials used and number of levels, in order to compare damaged buildings against existing ones to obtain the respective statistics.
