Abstract:

This paper describes the development of a natural language processor for plate girder design. A natural language processor for engineering design may be described as a conceptual parser in which parsing of an input command is motivated by expectations, which in turn are based on knowledge of the specific problem. This work has demonstrated that natural language processing and computer graphics can be combined to form an effective interface for engineering design software.
