Abstract:

As currently practiced, the construction management system involves a team of the owner, design professional, and construction manager. The peer relationship to team members, nature of services provided, and responsibilities assumed as a project participant support recognition of the construction management practitioner as a professional in his own right. Current statutes and public regulations are not consistent on either the practice of CM as a project delivery system or on who is qualified to provide CM services. This paper will review the present legal status of the CM system from the perspective of the surveys and look at the latest efforts to professionalize the construction manager's role in the industry.
