Part of: Techniques for Rapid Assessment of Seismic Vulnerability

Abstract:

A discussion of a methodology that permits the assessment of the seismic risk associated with a group of buildings and incorporates relevant aspects of seismic hazard assessment including geotechnical information, geographic distribution of the building sites, differences in seismic response of various building types, damage estimation and financial analysis is presented. Portfolio analysis is used to review a portfolio of buildings to establish the membership in the portfolio based on expected return and variance of the individual buildings in the portfolio. Earthquake damage for the portfolio is approached as a correlated random variable based on similar seismic sources, building types, and geographic location.
