Abstract:

The use of a conventional network analysis computer program as an effective evaluation tool for routine operation of an existing water distribution system has several practical limitations which are described. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan) has adapted a state-of-the-art network analysis computer program into a user friendly tool that is used directly by engineers, planners, and system operators. This paper describes the adaptations to the FORTRAN program, and illustrates how the user and the model interact.
