Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Water Forum '86: World Water Issues in Evolution

Abstract:

Agricultural production in the southwestern part of the Canadian prairie provinces is limited by insufficient rainfall for optimum crop production. To overcome this moisture deficiency irrigation is currently practised on approximately 1,600,000 acres. 1,300,000 acres or 81% of the total irrigated area is located within the province of Alberta. Since some of the irrigation projects have been in operation for over 80 years, this paper emphasizes irrigation distribution system rehabilitation and expansion.
