Abstract:

An overview of two computer models and a nomograph model for sulfide prediction is presented. The first program, 'SULF. BAS', is a Basic Language computer model which predicts sulfide buildup and corrosion protection required in a sanitary sewer system. The second computer model, 'SULF-4', is a computer model for the Hewlett Packard HP-41 programmable calculator. 'SULF-4' provides various options, including the ability to change the input sewage characteristics, upstream (initial) sulfide level, or relative depth of flow and re-execute the analysis for a given sewer system. The graphic model provides a rapid sulfide prediction method for gravity sewers consisting of several reaches. Both the 'SULF-4' model and the nomograph solution are also based on the Pomeroy-Parkhurst equations.
