Abstract:

This paper presents the results of three years of monitoring effluent quality from two treatment facilities for trace organic chemicals in Pima County, Arizona. Approximately thirty 24-hour composite samples each were taken for influent and effluent at each of the two treatment plants over the past three years. The results of the investigation are presented. Some of the important findings of the study are: treatment by biofilter towers removes volatile organics with greater efficiency than pure oxygen activated sludge treatment plants, and halomethane removal efficiency is same for the above two process.
