Part of: Use of In Situ Tests in Geotechnical Engineering

Abstract:

A geotechnical exploration program at a site predominated by surface peats has been performed. The study encompasses the performance of in situ field tests and laboratory soil tests. Field activities included standard penetration borings, dilatometer tests, vane shear and field consolidation tests and a preload embankment. Peat settlement calculated using consolidation theory is compared with observed values from field tests and preload results.
