Abstract:

A series of pile load tests were performed at an onshore site to develop final geotechnical parameters for the Gaviota platform foundation which consists of large diameter drilled and grouted piles in calcareous claystone. The results of the pile testing program are analyzed in this paper and applied to Gaviota using a normalised approach to account for the difference in rock properties between the onshore and the offshore sites. The pile tests have permitted verification of existing design methods for the evaluation of the ultimate shaft resistance and investigation of the axial and lateral load-deflection behavior of grouted piles in rock.
