Part of: Use of In Situ Tests in Geotechnical Engineering

Abstract:

The Cone Penetrometer Test (CPT) when used in conjunction with a limited soil boring program can provide a more detailed and economical site characterization. This paper addresses how to locate CPTs, normalize and interpret field data, develop stratigraphy, and present CPT data. Also, the economic advantages of using CPTs in conjunction with a limited number of soil borings in lieu of a conventional boring program will be addressed.
