Abstract:
Piezocone data were found to be very reliable in the identification of uranium tailings according to the traditional categories of sands, sand-slime mixtures, and slimes by the use of charts based on the point stress and friction ratio. However, it was found that when an attempt is made to identify soils according to the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), a rather large scatter is observed. Charts are presented in an attempt to quantify the data scatter in a probabilistic manner. The estimation of design parameters through piezocone data correlations with laboratory test results is briefly discussed.
