Abstract:

The increase in damage frequency to the existing Timber Fender System during the change-over from military to commercial/industrial users resulted in a call for design solutions from the Rhode Island Port Authority. This Paper discusses the design parameters established for the Project and presents details of the selected design. The fender system is currently under construction and to date has proven to be an economical solution. The system provides the future operational flexibility necessary to make the Davisville Pier No. 1 one of the most attractive marine industrial sites in the Northeast.
