An OCEANWHEEL Breakwater

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Ports '86

Abstract:

The compression wall and tension spoke structural system (OCEANWHEEL) transfers lateral loads from sea surface to seafloor efficiently. It promises a wide variety of uses beyond the described breakwater. The design and construction of a sample structure is sketched in sufficient detail for economic comparisons with other systems. The sample combines tension piles and concrete fabric forms with OCEANWHEEL to make a breakwater in 15m (50 ft) water depth. The design wave height is 6m (20 ft).
