Abstract:

This paper describes a spreadsheet-based structure for financial analysis of port facilities and services, designed for use as a planning tool by non-specialist port managers. The paper shows how Lotus 1-2-3 worksheet software can be used on a PC personal computer to project financial performance of existing and proposed port facilities. The paper relates the development of depreciation and amortization schedules, pro forma statements and funds flow. Finally, the paper discusses the application of ratio analysis, breakeven analysis, inflation sensitivity and incremental analysis to operations, investment and credit analysis of port facilities.
