Abstract:

Four widely used methods of structural system identification are presented. A new formula and its derivation, based on the Bayesian estimation theory, is given. Time domain responses of a frame when subjected to the ground motion of El-Centro earthquake are computed and transformed to the frequency domain. Frequencies and mode shapes of the frame are extracted from Fourier Spectra. Using these frequencies and mode shapes, a parametric study is conducted, and the methods are compared. The advantages, disadvantages, and problems of each method are discussed.
