Abstract:

This paper presents experimental and analytical results on precast concrete shear walls under earthquake loading. It was observed in both small scale models tested and the computer analysis that the nonlinear effects found consist of the combinded action of rocking and slip mechanisms. Rocking was more prevalent at the lower joints, whereas, slip response was most prevalent at the upper levels. Damage and effective softening tended to increase the amount of rocking and slip observed.
