Abstract:

Site selection involves two phases. First, a small number of alternatives among all possible sites are identified for further evaluation, and then the selected alternatives are examined in depth to find the optimal site. This paper presents a methodology for systematizing and expediting the first of the two phases in the site selection process. The proposed methodology is implemented in the expert system SISES (SIte Selection Expert System) that can be used as a decision making tool in selecting a site for a specific use. SISES is designed to capture the expertise of expert decision makers without making any a priori assumptions about their preferences, background or identity. 14 refs.
